Optimist Brain Bowl

The 2008 Brain Bowls have successfully concluded! The North Region,
at Fairview High School in Boulder on Jan. 12, and the Central
Region, at George Washington High School in Denver on Feb. 2, both
went very well. The winners and scores are posted as pdf's under the
Brain Bowl Resources section of this web site. The trophies and
awards have all gone out! But we DO have some event T-shirts
("Know-It-ALL" ) still available.

About 90 teams of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participated in each
regional tournament, supported by 136 Optimists and guests at each
event. Add in coaches and parents, and each contest had maybe 800 to
1000 people present, filling the halls with enthusiasm and knowledge.
(OK, and some confusion at times! :) )

Look for the Boulder event again next January, and the Denver event
next February. We'll be talking to the schools about their use
schedules in August when school starts up next year to see exactly
what dates will work for them and for the organizers. Invitations
likely will go out in September or October, so plan ahead for these
exciting tournaments.

Colorado Extreme Creativity, the host of this web site, is kind to
handle our materials as well as theirs. (THANKS!) Please note that
their Destination ImagiNation contests are starting soon, in March
plus, so feel free to expand your interests to include those events
as well. While not an Optimist activity, it is a worthwhile activity
for young people and the volunteers who assist, and some Optimist do
take part as volunteers.
